Occasionally the works we perform require a children's choir and for many years, I have worked with Coldfall Primary School Choir under the direction of Kate Vetch. Not only has this included concerts in major London concert halls, including Orff's Carmina Burana, but it has also included a recording of Britten's Saint Nicolas with Signum Records and The BBC Concert Orchestra where the children's choir plays a significant part. This is all top-quality music making and it is important that I completely trust the school's music director (Kate!) to provide me with excellence, professionalism and reliability. Kate is a stunning teacher and is also very aware of the standards required. This is a rare and valuable skill, one to be recognised and celebrated. Kate's extensive experience as well as her deep knowledge and understanding of music, the national curriculum, music pedagogy and how children learn music, led to the production of a comprehensive scheme of plans supported throughout by resources and video/audio clips to give teachers the confidence to teach and to give pupils good musical experiences. Kate supplemented this with half termly teacher training and advice on acquiring instruments and grants to fund them too. As a result, children very much enjoy their lessons and have become more rhythmical and melodic, which is evident across the school. They play instruments with gusto and sing with glee!
